The 12th Sardis Habitat House is Built!

On Saturday, August 1st, a ceremony was held to dedicate the “White House.” Proud homeowner Monica Melton, representatives of the Arnold White family, and many of the dedicated Sardis and Matthews Presbyterian volunteers attended this dedication ceremony. Rev. Catherine Craley opened the ceremony with prayer and later blessed the house. Walt Donham, the House Leader, presented Monica with the keys to her new home. Photo albums chronicling the build were also presented to Monica and to the White family.

Many thanks to the Sardis Habitat volunteers who worked so diligently each week to help build the “White House.”  Without the willing hands and generous hearts of these volunteers, this house would not have been possible. Please see the complete listing of Habitat volunteers in the September 2009 issue of the Communicator.

"My friend and I were able to spend  Saturday morning helping out with our Habitat House. We love to build things, so it was a lot of fun to sheetrock an entire room, but it is even more gratifying to know that this room will eventually house a family. It was a very rewarding Christian experience and we will sign up again."                   —Jonathan Stutts

Arnold White
1929-2008

Matthews Habitat dedicated this house to avid Sardis Habitat volunteer Arnold White who passed away in December. Arnold was instrumental in the building of ten of the Sardis Habitat homes and was named the Habitat Volunteer of the Year in 1995.

Arnold was greatly missed during the building of this special house.

“Arnold's lifelong passion was for building things.  But the project he loved most was building affordable housing with Matthews Habitat because he got to develop a  personal relationship with the owners.  One lady spoke at church expressing thanks to Sardis and ending with, ‘And I just LOVE that Arnold White!’  Who could resist that?”
