HOSPITALITY HOUSE

 Look! More Living Water!

As Charlotte hospitals have become major referral centers for critically ill patients from the Carolinas, many of their families arrive without means to obtain a place to stay. They are often referred to the two Hospitality House locations near Presbyterian Hospital and Carolinas Medical Center. Sardis has provided financial support for this much-needed service since 1988, started by the Mecklenburg Medical Auxiliary, and our own Anne Shoaf is now the director.

Hospitality House provides 29 clean, safe rooms in which to sleep and a place to relax away from the hospital scene for those families. They are about 90 percent occupied. The $217,000 annual budget is supplemented by donated goods and volunteer workers: Janice Mai, Ann Wenzl and Shem and Martha Blackley among them.

Guests are responsible for vacuuming and cleaning the facilities as well as laundering their linens.  Still, operation of the houses requires many hours of volunteer support – and you are invited to help! You can plug into this great ministry by calling their office (704-384-6058). This could be a wonderful project for a Mustard Seed Group or a Sunday School class.
