Food Drive: June 22 - July 6
A Ton of Food for Families in Crisis
Non-profit agencies in the Charlotte metro area are experiencing unprecedented shortages in their crisis food pantries, as families who before were just barely making it are being squeezed by rising gas prices, higher food prices, and increases in unemployment.
Loaves & Fishes alone has had a 23 percent increase in clients the first three months of 2008, the most rapid increase in their 33 year history. Crisis Assistance has had a 36 percent increase in the number of people seeking assistance that they have had to turn away.
In response to this need, the Community Service Ministry is planning a Food Drive for Loaves & Fishes from Sunday, June 22 through Sunday, July 6. Sardis members have a history of being some of the most generous donors to food pantries in the Charlotte area, so we’re setting an aggressive goal of two thousand pounds, or one ton, of food to be collected in this drive.
The collection bags will be placed in various locations June 22. There is a preferred list of items printed on the bag. We will be collecting the bags Sunday, June 29 and Sunday, July 6. Thank you in advance for your generous response to this food crisis.
Peanut Butter is the #1 requested item. It is high in protein and doesn’t require electricity to prepare. Please pick up an extra jar for the food drive!
