Don’t have an hour a week to spare?

Your financial support is also an extremely important way to join the partnership.  Donations from Sardis members will allow the purchase of books, supplies, and technology.

Small groups are needed to provide support for families in times of crisis and with one time projects.  Service opportunities around the holidays will be available to help  needy children and families.

Rama Road Elementary is now a Title I school with 79% of its students on free or reduced lunch with two-thirds of those students performing below grade level. Nineteen homeless children were identified last year with many more families just a paycheck away from homelessness.

Rama Road Elementary is less than a mile away from our church. The school population has changed more dramatically than the school’s surrounding

neighborhood. Rama students need our support to get the education needed to break the cycle of poverty.

A Session-appointed task force recommended Rama Road Elementary as our next local mission project. The Session of Sardis made a three year commitment to the school.

The need is great; the opportunities even greater! Three main areas of focus will be to increase participation at the school by Sardis members, increase the number of books in the classrooms, and improve technology.

LUNCH BUDDY/TUTORING

Be a special friend to a child by spending an hour once a week having lunch and

participating in an activity such as reading together or working on schoolwork. This is perfect for a person with just a lunch hour to give. Choose a day of the week and a time between 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

AFTERSCHOOL TUTORING

Once a week after school at Rama Road, assist children with teacher-planned work. Choose a day of the week and a one hour commitment between 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

TUTORING PROGRAM AT SARDIS

Work with Hispanic children from Rama Road Elementary at the church on language skills on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Transportation for students is provided to the church. Spanish speaking skills are not necessary. Drivers are also needed.

MEDIA ASSISTANT

Assist the media specialist in the library. This will require a one hour commitment once a week.

OFFICE ASSISTANT

Assist with clerical duties for one hour commitment once a week.

ROOM REPRESENTATIVE

Assist teachers with classroom duties and coordinate parties. Time commitment varies as needed.
